HOK has appointed Guillermo Murcia as principal-design in its Atlanta studio, where he will lead design strategy and delivery for projects across the Southeast and beyond.
Murcia brings more than 30 years of international experience designing complex, high-performance environments across workplace, hospitality, residential, cultural, and academic sectors. His award-winning portfolio spans the Americas, Europe, and Asia, with notable projects in Colombia, Mexico, the Czech Republic, Spain, South Korea, and the U.S.
Known for his thoughtful, context-driven approach, Murcia creates architecture that is both enduring and responsive—design that reflects the cultural, environmental, and social fabric of its setting. His leadership emphasizes collaboration, innovation, and a deep commitment to design excellence.
Before joining HOK, Murcia held senior design roles at global architecture firms, leading multidisciplinary teams on large-scale urban and architectural projects. He holds a Master of Architecture from Pratt Institute, where he received the Sidney Katz Award for Design Excellence, and a Bachelor of Architecture from Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá, Colombia. He is an active member of AIA New York and the Colombian Society of Architects and has lectured widely on sustainable urbanism and equitable design.
Murcia’s appointment strengthens HOK’s design leadership across the Southeast.
“HOK stands out to me for its ability to balance design innovation and technical expertise with a strong focus on sustainability,” said Murcia. “I was particularly drawn to the firm’s commitment to engaging authentically with the communities it serves. This is especially meaningful in Atlanta, where architectural design plays a vital role in shaping the city’s future.”
