Kaneb Andrews Releases Tender New Single “Recombination”

Brooklyn-based indie Americana songwriter and artist Kaneb Andrews returns with his latest single “Recombination,” a vulnerable reflection on his struggle to grow while being held back by a lingering attachment to a past love.

Melancholic and longing, the track captures Andrews both metaphorically and literally stuck in the past, clouded by uncertainty. From lonely frozen dinners to carving a notch in the doorframe, “Recombination” offers an honest look at how complex the human experience is.

“Recombination” is quietly powerful. Andrews’ voice is striking, memorable and his lyrics draw listeners into a deeply personal moment. The song opens with a reflective tone before the drums enter, creating a shift that mirrors the rising emotional tension. The melody moves in waves, both catchy and introspective, capturing the push and pull of navigating unresolved feelings.

The track creates a deeply personal feel while remaining widely relatable. Lines like “What if we don’t change/ What if we just rearrange pieces of ourselves into new formations” speak to a shared experience– of trying to grow, to heal, to make sense of what remains. Andrews creates a space within his music that invites listeners to reflect alongside him, making “Recombination” not just a song, but a moment of connection.

Co-produced with engineer Matt Anthony at Second Take Sound and Engine Sound, the song combines indie-rock and Americana’s traditional instrumentation and storytelling. Recorded mostly in one take with a live band and a Fender Rhodes piano, the track highlights Andrews’ mellow vocals paired with his overdubbed acoustic guitar frets.

Drawing inspiration from legendary artists such as Bob Dylan and Bruce Springsteen, Andrews’ sound comes from a blend of genres such as classic rock, indie folk, and more, creating a cohesive and unique style.

Kaneb Andrews is a recent graduate of NYU’s Songwriting program with a master’s degree in music and has built a strong presence in the NYC music scene. He’s played at various historic venues including The Bitter End, Mercury Lounge, Rockwood Music Hall, DROM, and a sold-out show at Heaven Can Wait. He has also opened for larger touring acts such as Texas King, Hush Club, and Copilot, and has toured on both the East and West Coasts.

This past July, Andrews hit the road for The It’s Official Tour, a mini co-headlining run with fellow indie act Summer Fling, with stops in Asbury Park, Poughkeepsie and Washington, DC.

“Recombination” follows the release of “Midnight Medicine”– the first in a series of singles in 2025.

“Recombination” is available to stream now. For updates, follow Andrews on Instagram.
