The Eames Institute acquires Lars Müller Publishers, signalling a “new chapter” for the Swiss publishing house

Lars Müller Publishers (LMP) has been acquired by the Eames Institute of Infinite Curiosity, a nonprofit dedicated to sharing the problem‐solving lessons of Ray and Charles Eames with the world. Additionally, Hubertus Design, founded in Zurich by Jonas Voegeli and Kerstin Landis, is joining LMP.

The move couples LMP’s world-renowned editorial program with the Eames Institute’s collection, research, and educational initiatives. Together, the combined organization will “broaden public access to seminal ideas, objects, and publications that inspire creative inquiry.”

LMP founder Lars Müller will actively guide the publishing program over the next few years. Müller fittingly called it a “new chapter.”

“This partnership will nurture the editorial independence, intellectual rigor and design ethos that have long defined our work, while also creating new opportunities for purposeful publishing,” Müller said in a statement.

Jonas Voegeli of Hubertus Design added, “To join forces with two such bold and curiosity-driven legacies fills us with joy and humility. This alignment anticipates a generational shift—and expresses our deep conviction that publishing and design are tools for imagining—and shaping—the future.”

How will it all work?

Under the new structure, LMP will retain its name, its editorial independence, and its headquarters in Zurich; and it will gain the Eames Institute’s resources, curatorial expertise, and global network.

This isn’t the Eames Institute’s first foray into the publishing world: In 2023, it also acquired William Stout Architectural Books in San Francisco, as reported by AN. The nonprofit moved into its midcentury-inspired office space in Richmond, California, last year.

Thanks to the relationship between William Stout Architectural Books and the Eames Institute, LMP will be able to host events and programming at the lauded design publication seller.

Forthcoming titles slated for publication in 2025, and all current LMP projects more broadly are proceeding uninterrupted, the partnership said. Expanded opportunities for research collaborations and co-published series are expected.
