Frank DiLella’s theater picks: ‘BOOP! The Musical,’ ‘Heathers’ and ‘The Winter’s Tale’

With the many entertainment choices New York City has to offer, it can be difficult to decide what to see. Look no further. “On Stage” host Frank DiLella has curated a list of must-see shows this week, guiding you to the best of Broadway, off-Broadway and beyond.

“BOOP! The Musical”

Catch it before it closes up shop. “BOOP! The Musical,” which is about the classic cartoon character Betty Boop, is set to shutter at The Broadhurst Theatre on July 13. The show stars Jasmine Amy Rogers, who is making her Broadway debut as the title character and features direction and choreography by musical theater great Jerry Mitchell.

“Heathers”

On the off-Broadway front, class is back in session and the OG mean girls are back ruling the school. “Heathers,” a musical based on the 1989 film, returns to New World Stages. The cast includes Broadway’s Lorna Courtney, Kerry Butler, McKenzie Kurtz and Ben Davis.

 “The Winter’s Tale”

And over at Lincoln Center, don’t miss ABT’s presentation of “The Winter’s Tale”— choreographed by Tony Award-winner Christopher Wheeldon. “On Stage” recently caught up with Wheeldon on break from a rehearsal to talk about his ballet.

“Storytelling is my passion. And in ballet, bringing a theatricality, bringing some of the, of the dynamics of a Broadway musical to the ballet, is also something that I love to do,” he said.

“The Winter’s Tale” is playing at the Metropolitan Opera House now through Saturday.
