Lots of people are fascinated by dinosaurs, their imagination stoked by popular movies and the possibility (no matter how remote) of Jurassic creatures coming back to life in modern times.
The original inspiration for these larger-than-life tales was The Lost World, a fictional yarn about British explorers coming across dinosaurs in the Amazon jungle. Already famous for his Sherlock Holmes mysteries, British author Arthur Conan Doyle wrote his dinosaur saga after reading dispatches that real-life scientists were sending back from British Guiana.
