State Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against three school bus companies contracted by the city’s Department of Education, charging them with idling vehicles at schools and near apartment complexes longer than city and state laws allow.
Drivers of some 614 buses owned and operated by Jofaz Transportation, Third Avenue Transit and Y&M Transit repeatedly idled in low-income communities of color across the city from September 2019 to as recently as last month, spewing air pollution that endangers the health of New Yorkers, the lawsuit alleges.
