New York’s rent-relief program is poised to get a major funding boost in the state budget, leaving housing groups both grateful for the long-awaited influx and concerned that it still will not be enough to meet the need.
The $220 billion budget agreement Democrats in Albany have reached will include $800 million for the emergency rental assistance program and $125 million for homeowner and landlord assistance, Gov. Kathy Hochul announced yesterday. The budget will include $250 million for utility arrears as well, Hochul said.
