Op-ed: We need a long-term, holistic approach to health

Hospitals across the country and in the New York area have been shuttering for decades. On top of that, there is a documented physician shortage. But can we really fix our fractured health care system by simply keeping hospitals open and training more doctors? History says no.

Despite the fact that we spend the most money on health care, the health and well-being of Americans is worse than that of residents of other high-income countries. Across the board, health outcomes are grim.
