The late entry of businessman Harry Wilson into the New York governor’s race has thrown a wrench into the GOP’s plans to nominate Rep. Lee Zeldin at next week’s party convention.
Wilson is a multimillionaire who made his fortune on Wall Street specializing in corporate restructurings, private equity and credit investment funds. The former Blackstone executive nearly pulled off an upset in the state comptroller’s race in 2010 against Democrat Thomas DiNapoli, losing by 202,239 votes out of 4.3 million cast. He had come with bipartisan credentials obtained while working as a member of former President Barack Obama’s Treasury Department task force, which restructured the ailing auto industry
