Finalists announced for $150M Governors Island climate center

Mayor Bill de Blasio on Wednesday announced four finalists in the city’s competition to build a climate solutions center on Governors Island. The city-created Trust for Governors Island plans to award $150 million in funding for the winning project, which is designed to research—and educate the public about—responses to the climate crisis.

“If there’s any place you should have a global headquarters, it’s New York City,” de Blasio said. “The eyes of the world are going to be on Governors Island.”

New York has been battered by severe weather in recent years.
