Yesterday, on July 15, 2021, in a meeting with Canada’s premiers, Prime Minister Justin Trudeau indicated that Canada may be willing to open its borders to fully vaccinated Americans traveling for non-essential purposes by as early as mid-August.
Canada’s borders have been closed for all non-essential travel (with few exceptions) since March 2020, when travel restrictions were introduced to stop the spread of COVID-19. It has now been 16 months since the Canada-U.S. border has been closed and pressure has been mounting from both American and Canadian citizens, business leaders and politicians to relax travel requirements for cross border travel.
