As graduations take place all across the country, many high school and college students are dreaming about a classic rite of passage to mark the accomplishment: obtaining a vehicle of one’s own. But a tight car market could mean that it may be easier to go with something that won’t provide the best protection possible in a crash.
“With used car prices so high this year, it may be tempting to have a newly licensed teen make do with a clunker or to buy them the smallest, cheapest new car available,” David Harkey, president of the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, said in a statement.
