P&O Ferries crossings could be suspended for up to 10 days after 'wholly unacceptable' mass firings

P&O Ferries, which sails major routes including between Britain, France and Ireland, has announced that it is halting all journeys to “secure the long-term viability” of the company.

The shipping firm also confirmed that 800 seafaring staff have been fired – with immediate effect.

“Services from P&O will not be running and we are advising travellers of alternative arrangements,” it said in a statement. Routes from Dover to Calais, Larne to Cairnryan, Dublin to Liverpool and Hull to Rotterdam will be disrupted for up to 10 days while they find new crews.
