U.S. military to pick up pace of evacuation flights out of Afghanistan

Top Pentagon officials said Tuesday the U.S. military would ramp up the pace of evacuations out of Afghanistan in the coming days, but they struggled to answer how American citizens and Afghan allies still stranded in Kabul would be extricated from the capital city now under Taliban control.

At a news briefing at the Pentagon, Army Maj. Gen. William Taylor told reporters the Hamid Karzai International Airport in Kabul “remains secure” following the chaos on the tarmac Monday that temporarily halted all U.S. flights.
