Supporters of the SoHo/NoHo rezoning plan have failed to win over a crucial backer: Manhattan Borough President Gale Brewer.
Brewer announced Thursday evening that the city’s proposal has “too many challenges.” Officials can do better than the current plan, she said.
She laid out a number of issues she would like to see addressed, including subsidies for developers who exceed the city’s affordable housing guidelines, protections for loft-law tenants and the preservation of the historic district.
“I stand ready to continue to work with the Planning Commission, the [City] Council, and to engage the community and stakeholders in efforts to improve this proposal,” she said.
