Gov. Kathy Hochul has come out in support of extending New York’s eviction moratorium to Jan. 15, calling on the Legislature Tuesday night to convene for a Sept. 1 extraordinary session at noon.
“This is a temporary safety net that we need to extend,” she said, “because the pandemic is not over.”
New York’s eviction moratorium had been set to expire on Aug. 31, but the uptick in Covid cases due to the Delta variant, along with problems the state has had distributing its billions of dollars in rent relief, sparked calls for it to be extended once again.
