Federal restaurant bailout snubs most New York eateries

Most of the New York eateries that applied for federal relief to make up the revenue they lost during Covid-19 closures will not receive a cent from the grant fund, which closed on Friday.

Only 35% of state restaurants, bars, bakeries, and brewpubs had their applications approved for the $28.6 billion Restaurant Revitalization Fund grant, which was created by Congress’s American Rescue Plan.

“The Restaurant Revitalization Fund is a savior to those small businesses that received it, but way too many of our local businesses that were relying on this relief have been left behind and now face a dire future,” said Andrew Rigie, the executive director of
