Beleaguered Shuttered Venue Operators Grant has new orders: get money out fast

A day after blowing its own deadline for funding all first-priority applications for its emergency relief grant, the Small Business Administration has brought in dozens of new staff members as it pledges to speed up the review process immediately.

The new effort comes as just 102 grants have been awarded.

The federal Shuttered Venue Operators Grant had given out just $127.9 million of its $16 billion pot as of Wednesday morning, more than a month after the country’s venues, theaters, concert promoters, cinemas and museums were able to apply to receive 45% of their lost 2020 revenue up to $10 million.
