Amazon hired 6,000 in New York last year

Amazon added 6,000 employees in New York last year, part of a hiring spree that pushed its workforce beyond 1 million nationally and above 34,000 statewide. 

The tech giant said recently it would hire an additional 75,000 people nationwide to keep up with e-commerce demand, and it would boost pay to $17 per hour and offer $1,000 signing bonuses in most markets. That comes as the company purchased and leased new office space in Manhattan and could soon rank among New York’s largest private employers.
