John McDonald’s Newest New York City Venture, American Bistro, Hancock Street

Opening a restaurant in the middle of a pandemic is certainly a gamble, but perhaps a little less so if you’re legendary entrepreneur and restauranteur, John McDonald. With a storied background in nightlife, restaurants and media, he, along with longtime friend Serge Becker, decided completely renovate and transform the space of McDonald’s former Mexican restaurant El Toro Blanco, which permanently closed in March in to the new restaurant, Hancock Street.

Since his start in hospitality in 1993 with SoHo’s iconic MercBar, McDonald has successfully grown his New York City restaurant portfolio to include Lure Fishbar New York, Lure Miami, Lure Chicago, Bowery Meat Company, Burger & Barrel,
