Branson Makes History, Rocketing To Space With His Virgin Galactic Company

On July 11, history was made again in the private space business. Civilian billionaire Sir Richard Branson, founder of Virgin Galactic, flew on his SpaceShipTwo space-plane (named Eve, after his mother), to 53.5 miles above the Earth, reaching space as defined by NASA. 

Branson was treated to a life-changing view of Earth, and a few minutes of weightlessness. He was joined by pilots Mike Masucci and Dave Mackay, and fellow fliers Beth Moses, Colin Bennett and Sirisha Bandla. The flight, from Spaceport America in New Mexico, cemented Branson’s boyhood dream of becoming an astronaut.
