Memphis Brooks Museum of Art unveils a new Herzog & de Meuron-designed home

The Memphis Brooks Museum of Art, the largest and oldest art museum in the state of Tennessee, has revealed the design concept for its new home perched atop a promontory overlooking the Mississippi River in one of the oldest sections of Bluff City. The 112,000-square-foot building is designed by Herzog & de Meuron in partnership with red-hot Memphis architecture and design collective archimania. The pair was tapped by the museum to design the new facility in 2019, beating out a formidable shortlist of contenders that included Diller Scofidio + Renfro, Johnston Marklee, and OMA.
